General

The built-in materials database allows the convenient addition of reagents, solvents and auxiliaries to the experiment protocol without repeatedly looking up of their molecular weights, molarities, densities, or safety documents. It comes pre-configured with verified properties of approximately 200 commonly used materials, and additionally continuously grows with every use of a material not yet present in the database. Whenever adding a material to the experiment protocol, its last stored properties, including safety documents (see below), are assigned to it.

The drop down menu of the material dialogs (see above image) is directly populated from the materials database. To select a specific material from the list, you can apply one of the following options:

  • Click on it.
  • Use the arrow up and down keys, followed by the RETURN key.
  • Shortcut: Press the CTRL-key while clicking a material, to add it directly to the protocol without confirming the dialog first.

Each material entry in the drop-down menu contains an "x" button to its right, which allows to remove it from the database. Finally, editing the properties of a material will apply the updated values to all future protocol entries of it.

Material Safety Documents

The immediate availability of material safety documents  is crucial in case of an emergency situation. Therefore all reagents, solvents and auxiliaries allow the attachment of up to three safety-related PDF documents of your choice. This attachment is global, i.e. all future additions of the affected material will contain the assigned safety documents by default.

The material properties dialogs of reagents, solvents and auxiliaries contain a SafetyDocs area for managing these documents. Click the Add button (+) to attach one or several safety related PDF documents. Please note that only PDF documents are supported, with a maximum size of 15 MB per document and a maximum of 3 documents per material. After attachment, the selected document appears in the Safety Docs area. If only one document is attached, it can be clicked directly for viewing in the current default PDF viewer. This is indicated by a "Hand" icon:

In case of multiple attached documents, a dropdown menu containing all documents opens after a mouse click, to allow the selection of the desired document. The last selected document is remembered for each material.

Individual documents can be removed by clicking the "x" button at their right edge.

Important:

Changes to the material safety documents are only stored after clicking the OK button of the materials dialog!
